About Us

Boys to the Bush is focused on prevention and early intervention strategies for vulnerable male youth.

Since 2017 Boys to the Bush has impacted over 7,000 lives through involvement in our range of programs. 

These include 1:1 MENtoring Programs, Camps, School Programs, Education Programs, AlternativeCare Arrangements and Community Engagement Days.

Ongoing support is provided to over 75% of the youth that engaged with Boys to the Bush programs.

The Board

Boys to the Bush is led by a skills-based Board. The Board meet regularly to oversee the strategic direction and financial health of the organisation. Adam DeMamiel

CO-FOUNDER, CEO

Adam was born in Leeton, NSW and grew up in towns including; Cowra, Forbes, Narrandera and Barellan.

Adam completed a Bachelor of Education, Primary (Special Education) and had been teaching Special Education since 2005.

Adam is married to Angela and they have two daughters- Zahli and Emmi and a son- Jed.

“I have loved seeing Boys To the Bush grow from being an idea to a reality. I am so proud of what we have achieved so far and I am excited for what the future holds. I can 100% say that we are making a difference.”

Alison Lee

Corporate Services

Corporate Services Manager Alison Lee prides herself on making sure our Boys to the Bush office operates smoothly.

With 20 years’ experience in audit services across private and public sectors, Alison specialises in process and risk management.

Outside of work, Alison enjoys spending time with family – her husband and three kids – who get into every sport possible and go camping any chance they get.

Alison joined the team to give back to the community and be a part of an organisation that brings about positive change to the lives of young men every day.

Anthony Howard

Operations Manager

Operations Manager Anthony Howard is a proud Albury local.

With a Bachelor of Commerce Degree from the University of NSW, Anthony has more than 30 years’ of experience, mainly in the fast-moving consumer goods industry and he’s passionate about growing organisations with lots of potential.

He has been based mostly in Australia, but also spent seven years overseas in China and the Middle East.

Anthony joined us here at Boys to the Bush to “work with an amazing organisation with enormous potential and quality people making a huge difference for disconnected boys living in regional areas”.
He enjoys watching AFL, bike riding, horse racing, distilling, and spending time with family and good people.

Dean Whymark

Area Manager (Albury, Young, Wagga)

Dean Whymark enjoys working alongside dedicated staff at Boys to the Bush (BttB) where he finds great pleasure in helping support local youth.

With a background as an Assistant Principal and Area Manager, Dean values understanding his staff’s needs and providing support accordingly, while also involving them in decision-making processes to foster a positive team environment.

Drawing from 30 years of coaching experience in sports, he leverages his community connections to enhance BttB’s impact.

Jared DeMamiel

Area Manager (Forbes, Dubbo, Leeton, Bathurst)

Jared Demamiel is a great leader to our Boys to The Bush (BttB) team.

He approaches staff management by prioritising support for his team, believing that he works for them rather than the other way around.

With extensive experience since the organisation’s inception, Jared’s expertise is highly valued by his colleagues.

Beyond BttB, Jared connects with the community by providing a home for children in need, demonstrating his commitment to making a difference beyond the workplace.

Tim Sanson

CO-FOUNDER, & AREA MANAGER (BENDIGO, ECHUCA, WANGARATTA)

Tim was born and raised in Lake Cargelligo, NSW. Tim grew up on the land with his family and loves nothing more than drawing upon his past experiences to assist youth.

Tim completed a Bachelor of Education, Human Movement and has been teaching for over 20 years.

Tim is married to Fiona and has two sons- Charlie and Roley and a daughter- Olivia.

I have a great passion for the land and I want to use this to engage with boys that may not be as fortunate as I have been to have positive males in their lives. I really enjoy getting back to basics and keeping things simple.”

Jarryd Hatton

Location Manager - Albury

Jarryd Hatton values the interventions and opportunities provided by Boys (BttB) to nurture strong community connections.

With a background in leadership roles in schools and sports teams, Jarryd approaches staff management by empowering team members to take ownership of their programs while upholding accountability.

He believes in building supportive environments where staff actively contribute to the organisation’s expectations.

Outside BttB, Jarryd focuses on strengthening relationships with existing community groups while actively seeking opportunities to expand their reach and impact.

Kurt Hancock

Location Manager - Bathurst

Through positively influencing children and interacting with the community, Kurt Hancock fully enjoys his role with Boys to the Bush (BttB).

He believes in honest and passionate staff management, leading by example to foster a supportive team environment.

With previous experience in youth work and supervising roles, Kurt brings valuable skills to his position.

Outside BttB, he coaches Rugby League and remains connected with the Bathurst community through a large network of friends.

Dan O'Bree

Location Manager - Bendigo

Dan O’Bree values the nurturing and refreshing atmosphere at Boys to the Bush (BttB), emphasising the teamwork and positive influence the organisation offers to young boys.

As a manager, he puts emphasis on horizontal relationships among the Bendigo BttB team, fostering openness and teamwork through regular catch-ups.

Drawing from his experience with Victoria Police, Dan brings skills in understanding body language, honesty, and problem-solving, particularly when working with children.

Outside BttB, he actively engages with the community through local sporting clubs, running groups, charity fundraising, and social gatherings, further enriching his connections and contributions beyond the workplace.

Chad Parkes

Location Manager - Dubbo-Wellington

Chad Parkes brings a wealth of skills to Boys to the Bush in his role as Location Manager in Dubbo.

He has a professional background as a primary school teacher, along with experience in health promotions and various non-government organisations.

Outside of work, Chad loves spending quality time with his family and his green thumbs means he can often be found tending to his garden.

Chad’s commitment to the community and his passion for working with young men drew him to BttB.

He firmly believes that one positive role model can make all the difference in a child’s life.

Andrew Thomson

Location Manager - Echuca-Moama

Fostering trust and nurturing relationships is high on the list for Andrew Thompson in his role of mentoring young boys at Boys to the Bush (BttB).

With a background in disability services, Andrew brings expertise in team management and multi-tasking.

Outside BttB, he actively engages with the community through sports, volunteering, and networking, drawing from more than 35 years of local involvement.

Andrew’s dedication lies in empowering both his team and the youth he mentors, ensuring positive outcomes for all involved.

Tim West

Location Manager - Forbes

As a former teacher, Forbes Location Manager, Tim West joined Boys to the Bush to help offer kids an opportunity to succeed outside of the classroom.

Tim is in his happy place if he is playing sport or spending time with family.

As one of six kids, Tim has great childhood memories of time spent camping and playing sport.

Paul McGreogor

Location Manager - Leeton

Paul McGregor finds joy in working at Boys to the Bush (BttB), where he enjoys engaging with the boys and collaborating with the community to provide unique opportunities.

Emphasising communication, Paul believes in fostering a strong team through regular discussions and open dialogue.

Drawing from experience as a warehouse manager and owning his own business, Paul brings valuable skills to his role at BttB.

Outside of work, he remains deeply connected to the community through his involvement with the Leeton Rugby League Football Club, where he serves as President and a level 1 sports trainer.

Ben Walsh

Location Manager - Wagga Wagga

Ben Walsh possesses a passion for community and sport.

He believes reward and positive impact for your daily work is something everyone is after and Boys to the Bush (BttB) do this well.

AFL has always been a significant part of Ben’s life.

Playing and working within the game has given Ben incredible life experiences, friendships, and a strong connection to community.

Ben studied a double degree in Sports Management/Exercise Science and Sports Coaching at the University of Canberra.

He believes Wagga and surrounding towns are great places for (BttB) to thrive and achieve some really great things.

Matt Dillion

Location Manager - Wangaratta

Matt Dillon finds immense satisfaction in his role at Boys to the Bush (BttB), where he relishes the opportunity to positively impact the lives of young boys through mentoring.

His approach to staff management centers on open, honest communication and providing ample support, resources, and autonomy for his team to excel.

Drawing from his extensive experience as a National Operations Manager and Health Specialist Coach, Matt emphasises playing to each team member’s strengths and fostering a supportive, enjoyable work environment.

Beyond BttB, Matt remains connected to the community through his involvement in various sports clubs and activities, including coaching and umpiring football in the WDJFL and contributing to the Wangaratta Sports and Aquatic Centre.

Peter Butcher

Location Manager - Young

Providing opportunities for disconnected and vulnerable young men to grow and thrive is what drives Peter Butcher in his work with Boys to the Bush (BttB).

With a focus on building strong relationships and fostering a positive culture among staff, Peter emphasises creating an environment where everyone’s ideas are valued, and individuals feel supported to contribute their skills and perspectives.

Drawing from previous experience in team management and leadership, Peter prioritises equipping his team with the necessary tools for success while celebrating achievements and maintaining a personal connection with each employee.

Outside of BttB, Peter engages with the community through coaching Junior Rugby League, further extending his impact beyond the organisation.

Andy Kaye

Chair

Andrew grew up in Sydney spending his spare time in the outdoors. Whether through the Queen Scout and Duke of Edinburgh programs or on the family hobby farm West of Bathurst, NSW.

Having studied Construction Management at Newcastle University, Andrew spent his early working years in commercial construction in Sydney before meeting his now wife and relocating to Albury.

Since moving to Albury, Andrew has worked in a variety of capacities across the construction and manufacturing space and now runs a client-side Project Management consulting business along with Chameleon AMLS, a modular ute tray and trailer manufacturer based in Albury.

“Having grown up in the outdoors, I have witnessed, time and time again, the profound impact being in the outdoors and having strong leadership can have on a young life. It’s a wonderful program with a big future and I’m excited to be able to play a small part.”

Charles Cay

Vice Chair

Charles was born in Corowa and grew up north of the town on his family’s farm, attending primary school at a local small bush school before then going to Sydney for secondary and tertiary education.

In the late 1990’s he returned to the family farm and has spent the time since then working in Agriculture, He has broad industry experience including hands-on farming, corporate agriculture and has served on several industry boards and committees.

During the last twenty-plus years, Charles has been involved in local community organisations such as sporting clubs and have also placed an emphasis on environmental work and investments.

His involvement in Boys to the Bush comes from his belief that to be good at being a citizen, you should belong to something greater than yourself and that a worthwhile society should look after those that have fallen through the cracks, especially in this case through no fault of their own.

Stephen Bowler

Treasurer

Steve grew up on a farm at Holbrook. He is married with 4 children, Rebecca, Sam, Lily and Archie.

Steve is a Chartered Accountant with over 30 years’ experience in the accounting and advisory sector and is currently Managing Partner at Findex in Albury. He has previously had roles with KPMG, PWC and Coopers & Lybrand.

Steve also participates in a number of volunteer roles within the community, including his role at the Lavington Panthers Football Netball Club.

Steve has a passion for assisting his clients in achieving their goals and has a strong belief in ensuring the youth from all backgrounds are offered opportunities to grow and excel in life.

Boys to the Bush has a clear vision which will positively impact the lives of at-risk boys. It’s a privilege to be able to work with the cofounders to deliver programs at the grassroots.

Kristy Campbell

Board Member

Kristy is originally from Shepparton where she enjoyed camping on the Murray River, playing netball, and being part of her school community.

Moving to Melbourne to study at Swinburne University, Kristy completed her Bachelor of Arts, majoring in Media Studies and Human Resources alongside a Diploma of Business in Office Administration. Being afforded the opportunity to travel overseas, Kristy worked in London and Dubai in various Human Resources roles, before returning to her roots in regional Australia.  Now residing in Albury with her husband and daughter, she enjoys the lifestyle and opportunities that regional living offers.

Kristy has more than 20 years’ of experience in Human Resources and enjoys working with organisations to transform their employee experiences and deliver positive community outcomes as a result.

Working with community-minded organisations is particularly at the heart of what Kristy loves to do. As Chief People Officer at Hume Bank, she gets to do this every day and then she also volunteers her time as Chair of the Board of Border Trust and Board Member at Boys to the Bush.

Kristy believes that Boys to the Bush is a critical link that gives not only boys, but their families, schools and community a vision for a more accepting and connected future.

Catherine Douglas

Board Member

Catherine grew up in country South Australia, the daughter of parents who were both educators at local schools.

She completed a bachelor of laws and bachelor of commerce at the University of Adelaide, and later a Masters of Public Policy at the University of Sydney.

Having lived in the United States, she now resides in Sydney with her young family where she is the Managing Director of the C|T Group’s Australian research and campaigns business.

Catherine works with clients at the highest levels of business and politics, helping to navigate challenges and execute winning campaign strategies.

She passionately believes in the mission of Boys to the Bush, and looks forward to working with Adam and his team, and her fellow board members to help the organisation grow.

Simon McMaster

Board Member

Simon was born in London and then grew up in Wellington, New Zealand. He completed his Bachelor of Commerce Degree at Otago University in Dunedin, before returning back to London to build his Advertising career with the biggest agency network in the globe, TBWA.

When his two boys reached an age where inner-city living in London wasn’t ideal, the family moved to Sydney for the Aussie lifestyle. The next stage was a tree change, moving to Albury in 2014 and now Simon is running his own advertising agency, and working on a number of Boards and community groups.

Simon started working with Boys to the Bush as a sponsor through pro bono advertising and marketing support, and he jumped at the chance to more formally assist by joining the Board.

“When I first engaged with Boys to the Bush, I loved the concept and the impact that this organisation is making on so many lives, and at all levels. Whilst it is making an immediate impact on these boys, it is also a future-focused initiative that will make an impact on our communities for years to come.”

Eliza Pross

Board Member

Eliza’s first and most important role is as an aunty to a group of very active boys. She is a proud Yuin, Nuenonne woman with Scottish and English heritage, born and raised in Gaimaragal Country in Sydney.

Eliza is a qualified Social Worker with postgraduate qualifications in Human Service Policy. She is the Owner and Director of her own consultancy which works predominantly in the health and human services sectors. Eliza has extensive experience in service model design, workforce coaching, and training and has worked across Australia in corporate, government, and not-for-profit/charity sectors.

Working closely with youth, particularly First Nation’s young people, Eliza is passionate about raising strong, resilient, proud, and kind young people. She is particularly interested and drawn to the work of Boys to the Bush as an aunty to boys, seeing first-hand the effect that mentoring and positive role modelling can have in producing a healthy mind, body, and spirit.
